![]() The belt drive is different on the the waterpums also. The earlyer big cams have bolted to the top of the waterpump. The NT88 waterpump has the fan drive bolt to the block behind the waterpump. The NT88 waterail will not mate up to the earlyer thermostat houseing as the two sit differently on the head. ![]() There just isn't enough room without modifcation. The hard part is fitting the COMPLETE upper water rail from an earlyer engine to the NT88. The head has the two bolt holes drilled and tapped at each water outlet. This is because the waterrail is off-set to allow for clearance for the rocker-box, which is wider on the NT88. The NT88 waterrail is held on with one bolt at each water oultlet in the head. The heads on a NT88 have the valves further recessed into the head then earlyer Bic Cams but the heads are the same basic casting. The Basic castings for a Big Cam are all the same. This differes from the low flow, where the upper rail returns only to the pump, the radiator water come from the oilcooler via the thermostat.Īll Big Cams are similer. All the Coolant must pass from the block into the upper water rail. On a high flow system, the coolant in the upper waterrail is either fed back to the inlet of the pump (with the thermstat closed) or to the radiator (thermostat open) Or a mix of the two (most conditions). SO the restrictors keep the block pressure higher (around 50 psi so the coolant will flow thru the double pass radiator and back thru the intercooler to the block. Without the restrictors, there would be less resistance to flow just "short cycleing " thru the upper waterrail back to the inlet of the pump, and even with the thermostat full open, no circulation to the radiator would occure. ![]() Once the temp is reached the outlet of the oil cooler is fed to the radiator. The water to the radiator passes thru the oil cooler from the BOTTOM of the block, then if the engine is cool eough back to the inlet of the waterpump thru the bypass thermostat. On a low flow system ALL the coolant in the upper water rail is recirculated back to the inlet of the water pump. ![]() Let me explain about the restrictors in the head to waterrail jct. ![]()
